Hi essexboy  to be honest i haven't got a clue why i couldn't get into the drive as i say drive D was fine but i couldn't get into drive E  so im sorry i cant answer your question ....

Hi jason  the free trail lets you find the files but wont restore them, so i had to get the paid for version

which did the job

Some of the restored mails seem to be in some sort of code ?  so they cant be read  but i have got quite a few mails restored  and ive got some of my music files back

So all in all im very pleased

As for the burner thats sorted as well

But im not telling because feels a little silly

Lets just say if someone else as the same problem put in another disk because the one you are trying to copy may not let you

Once again guys thanks for your time / help

Tg

Hi Teak

Have you tried slaving the drive on another system to ensure that there isn't a problem with the drive itself.  I should have thought of this and suggested it before you went the format route... Sorry

yep  tried it in another pc as slave and it would read  drive d  but not e ,

Thats when i pressed format by mistake

taken drive out now and put another one in

burners  still not right  but ill leave that for now  ( works ok using windows burning software )

Im more  interested in getting my data back from drive e if thats poss

Many thanks guys

Ps only formated drive e  THE  hard drive still works  can read drive d  in all my xp  pc's

There still is hope you can get some of the data back, even if you reformatted.  First thing you will want to make sure Not to do, is do not save anything on that drive.  Everytime you save something you could be saving over something that you are trying to get back.   So make sure that when you save something to save it on the good drive (in other words the drive that you are not trying to restore data from).

Ok, to restore data you will need to use third party software.   I have a list of them, that I will dig up (I have had the same problem as you, in the past) and I will post it in a bit.   But in the meantime, Do not save anything on the drive that you want to restore the data from.

Thank you so much for your help
i have taken the drive out of the pc

i did try handy recovery  but got nothing

so if you have any links for software that may recover my lost data

id  be very gratefull

once again thank you for your time

Hi essexboy

Thank you so much for your help

I will try to sort it out turn za off whilst off line

My pc seems all over the place, In my computer  sometimes it doesnt pick up my dvdrw it tells me its a cdrom

And now i cant get to my slave drive which is split  so it will read one half (d) but it wont read the other (E)
it just asks me do i want to format it ( no i dont made that mistake before and lost  lots of data)

so i dont know whats going on

Ill get back to you if i sort it but if you have any ideas give me a shout

thank you lots

Hi there guys,

I have the following problem with my pc , Its seems to be running very slow at the moment.
Sometimes it takes a while for programes to load  and they seem to come up very slowly

ive been trying to burn some cds  using nero 6  ( copy cd ) and it takes about 35 to 40 mins to burn

the writer is about maybe 6 months old

cpu is celeron 2000  ( 478 )
ram 512

Ive had a good look idside pulled cables off then resetted them
I did notice that the cpu retaining bracket had one of the lugs missing so ive used a cable tie to secure it
I dont think this is the problem
Ive scaned my pc
Avg clear
Adaware ok
spybot ok

So can any one tell me what the problem might be

Ps the cd im burning are just music cds and ive had no probs before

many thanks for any help
