(NOTE: I am reposting this from the audio/video forum, so extra eyes may see it. Sorry if I offend anyone.)
Hi. How are you? Thanks for coming to my thread. ; )
Here's the story:
I own a Dell Latitude D600, with a newly installed motherboard (about a month old), and an on-board ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card. I had realized that SP2 was not on my machine, and so, I installed it.
Everything seemed fine until the next day when my girlfriend told me that the screen wouldn't work.
I looked at it, and sure enough, it wouldn't work.
I hooked it up to an external monitor, and began to look at things. I, through Dell, went through my options. They decided it was a SP2 issue, so I worked with Microsoft, spent a couple of hours on the phone with them, uninstalled and reinstalled SP2 through safe mode.
None of that worked.
So I uninstalled SP2 all together. Didn't work.
I then installed older drivers that Dell support gave me. No dice.
Basically, what happens is this:
1) The Dell splash screen comes up. 2) The WinXP initial screen hits. 3) Right before Windows kicks in, the LCD goes black.
Now, it works JUST FINE without the drivers. I, for curiosity reasons, tried that. I refused Windows installing my video card upon entrance into Windows after uninstalling the drivers and rebooting. And it worked just fine. I was able to do everything (change my resolution, desktop changes, etc).
But, with the drivers...nothing.
So, what can I do? Do you have any options for me to try? I'm all eyes at this point. I just want my mobility back. ; )
