well heres the link if your interested.........
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh118/wanab3/untitled.jpg

approach 2 seems to be my choice because my password isnt working for the repair install however the directions are to vague for my understanding

"Open Command Prompt and go to the i386 folder of your Windows XP CD-ROM. Using the "expand -r" command, copy all the missing .tt_ and .fo_ files to Windows folder."

what I did was search via windows, for the fonts listed on that web page. i tried the first one (ahronbd.ttf). didn't have it on the disk i thought that was strange. so i thought i would ask about that command that the directions say to use. glupek2

well alright sounds good ill wait....its just strange

so how does one post a pic? cause i think it might help to clarify things down the line.

ok so i have been looking at the font. and its not quite italics, its just messed up font. to get an idea it looks like "MV Boli" as opposed to the normal Tohoma.

and ill get a photo bucket or some thing.....

6  Windows XP Assistance / General Problems / italics? on: February 11, 2008, 11:04:35 PM
through out my computer, and on web pages I've noticed that the text that was, just normal text, now is in italics. I'd like to post an image however i don't understand how to post i read the thread on it, however i don't see a """choose""" option. in the additional options area i have

aditional options...
               notify me of replys
               return to this topic
               dont use smileys

this hasn't caused any problems its just weird.

i had sim city 3000 and i un installed it though revo uninstaller and i think some thing in that process caused this problem is there a registry key that needs changing its not all text it seems to be.... (god i wish i could post a pic)..... the information in a window but not all the information and its consistent no mater what program it is.....
glupek2 yea how do i post a pic.....

O16 - DPF: {644E432F-49D3-41A1-8DD5-E099162EEEC5} (Symantec RuFSI Utility Class) - http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/SharedContent/common/bin/cabsa.cab

and any one of the numerous sophos entries = two anti-virus; things cant that cause a problem?

8  Windows XP Assistance / General Problems / Re: sound(or no sound in this case) on: February 03, 2008, 10:53:48 AM
in addition make sure that your sound out-put didn't get put to digital only. if your using analog; and vise versa if you use digital. you could check this by going into: control panel> sounds and audio device properties.... how ever if this sound card card doesn't have these features (new-er sound cards do) .....well then theres one less variable at least... hope that helps some
9  Windows XP Assistance / General Problems / Re: Start Up Menu on: January 19, 2008, 02:01:24 PM
hi um i think that you have it(the menu), but you are "left clicking" on the mouse not "right clicking" right clicking is the right mouse button when you right click on the little are in the bottom left corner of your screen there will be a box that pops up that looks some thing like a comic book text area in any event in that little box third from the bottom it will say properties click that(left click) and the first screen that comes up will be the screen you need there will be a small picture of some desk top and there will be two selections that one will be filled in with a small green dot sort of like a multiple choice test and like a multiple choice test there is only one right answer in your case that is the top one that says start menu with a "customize" box about 4 inches from the right of the dot once you have confirmed that you have "checked or bubbled in the right bubble" click apply that will be in the bottom right hand corner then click ok ....... i hope this helps good luck!

so, realistically it is probably safe to delete the reg entries?

doing so will get rid of the "install new hardware wizard-pop up" at start up?

...... yathink <==== its called YA-think but it appears more to me as the thinking man statue.

K thanks!

13  Windows XP Assistance / Security-Virus/Spyware / "ROOT\LEGACY_SSDPSRV\0000" post trojan removal on: January 09, 2008, 10:17:36 PM
i just reinstalled windows on a friends computer and it had viruses and Trojans on it.

the computer seems to work fine however i get a new hardware detected when the computer turns on there is a unknown driver detected in the device manager that can only be identified as "ROOT\LEGACY_SSDPSRV\0000" i looked this up and i guess i has something to do with a Trojan according to a sophos antivirus page "http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/trojpuperd.html" and ive been looking for away to safely remove it or what ever makes this mystery driver come back.

i don't have any of the processes that the Trojan is supposed to start

(oh yea i can delete the mystery driver in safe mode. it will even stay away for one restart, but it always comes back???)

w+f! any way, any suggestions?
14  Windows XP Assistance / Tips & Tricks / use nlite to fix "setup did not find and hard disk.." during reinstall of window on: January 09, 2008, 06:08:16 PM
http://teamtutorials.com/windows-tutorials/how-to-make-a-custom-windows-install-w-nlite

if you ever get the message when trying to reinstall windows "set up did not find and hard disk drives installed in your computer"......"setup cannot continue to quit setup, press f3"

try "nlite" the address above is a tutorial about how to use nilte and it also provides a link to the nlite page to download nlite and any other software you might need.

nilte worked for me. this error message has defeated me once on another computer and seems to trouble many people; and nlite seems to be a easy solution.

so i hope this helps some one. ybiggrin

as always i appreciate your diligent efforts thank you hooray

i'm also trying to return the favor now that i kind of know what i'm doing. im sorry if i do give someone bad advise. if there is any doubt in my mind about some thing i will not advise, so i don't hinder your or any other more knowledgeable persons advise. i hope i can do this more often as it seems that the site is becoming more trafficked meaning more work for you guys.... so, i hope that i lighten the load, at least a little.
