It seems that Windows XP's days are numbered.  ycry
Microsoft is going to stop supporting and updating XP. I for one do not wish to "upgrade" to Vista.
For one thing I don't have room on my disc for how huge Vista is. For another I hear it's nothing but trouble.
I would have to buy a new computer which I just can't afford right now.
Also I just don't like to be bossed around by Microsoft.
I hate to say it but Linux is starting to look good to me. yathink

2  Windows XP Assistance / Installation, Startup or Shutdown Problems / Re: Autocheck on: February 27, 2008, 03:31:19 PM
Thank you, Squeezebox. I followed the instructions and
deleted everything after the entry 'autocheck autocheck* '
which was 'autocheck SsiEfre.e autocheck Isdelete Isdelete'
It worked! The message is gone from my startup.

About Defender,  When I had it installed it would run ALL the time. I even opened the program to see if it was scanning and it was idle. Some part of it was running in the background at all times.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled it twice with the same results so I gave up on it.

Thanks for the help. Glad I found this forum. hooray

Yes I'm sure.  My computer would be idle and the little light would be blinking like it was trying to solve the national debt.
So I opened the task manager and the only thing running was Defender. It would run like that at 100% for hours and trying to use the computer while it was running was like trying to talk to my ex wife. Frustrating as all heck!
So I uninstalled it and never had that problem again.  glupek2
So, is autocheck important or can I just ignore it like I do my ex wife? ylaugh

I used to have windows defender but it ran in the background so often and it used so much
resource that it slowed my computer to a crawl. I had to get rid of it.
I'll check out Superantispyware.  I tried to system restore but it wouldn't work. I'm going to try it again using older date and see what happens. What is Autocheck anyway? Is it important not to let it skip autocheck?

I've never had Spysweeper but I did upgrade my Adaware to latest version and I think that's where the problem
came from. Thanks for your help Squeezebox. I'm not too sure about messing with the registry and I wonder if it's ok to
just ignore the message. The comment further down the page says that deleting ssiefr.e caused another message to appear. yworried

yathink Hi. I'm new here and this is my first problem post.
I have windows XP SP2 and for the last few days when I start my computer I get a message that says
SsIEFR.e Program not found Skipping Autocheck.  It doesn't seem to be causing any problems yet as the computer starts
and works fine so far. I'm wondering if it's something to worry about or should I just ignore it.
I've Googled it and there seems to be conflicting advice about it. yquestion
7  Welcome To The Forum / Introductions / HELLO on: February 24, 2008, 07:15:52 PM
HI. My name is Tony and I am here to pick some brains and get help when I run into some xp problems I can't figure out.
I thank everyone in advance for any help you may be able to give.
I've been using my computer for about 4 years now and so far I've been able to figure out most problems but I'm
by no means an expert. I look forward to making friends and learning more computer skills.
