You CAN use another XP CD for a repair install of Windows - as long as you have the valid XP code sticker on the case of your PC.
You will need to download all the updates to Windows after a repair install, and you may need to reactivate.
Squeeze, I'm sad to tell you that it did NOT work for me: Windows did accept the cd, never asked for a code, repaired(?) my files,... and failed to start explorer. With my recovery disk of Ghost I could replace explorer with my old one, so it worked again. Even worse, the things that needed repair, ARE NOT REPAIRED!!You will need to download all the updates to Windows after a repair install, and you may need to reactivate.
So what to do now?
