Office doesn't open Works documents that are saved in their native format. That's why you need Works as well as Office if you want to be able to work with documents created in Works.

TIP: Open files in Works, save them in Word/Excel compatible format, then you can delete the originals. Make sure that all formatting that you might have used in Works is retained first though.
