hey all,am extreme novice on all things pc,apols. in advance.anyways, just recently on firing up the system im getting a"found new hardware" msg. about a vga compatable video controller.clicking next on the resulting wizard results in a msg. of"unable to find software for this device".i continue on as normal(ish) i think regarding colours & resolution although my screen seems to have a rippling or wave effect when i scroll up or down, which is annoying the crap out of me!my bro.(the serial tweaker) "thinks" he done something regarding the default monitor b4 this started.ive been to device manager & see  video controller "vga compatable" listed under other devices with a yellow "!" on it.im running winxp/sp2 on pentiumIII & have an IBM E74 monitor.any ideas ?
                                                               cheers,in advance.

A couple of suggestions:

1)  Did you try going to Windows Update yet?   If not, try that and run the scan, it usually will find base drivers for you.  You will need to use Internet Explorer and go to this address:

http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx

2)  If Windows Update doesn't find it, then you will need to go to the company that makes your system.  To determine specifically which model and board you have, run a utility called Belarc Advisor ( you can get that here:  http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html ).   It will tell you what your board model is and other info.    Once you have that do a google search for your model and you should find the Manufacturer's website.   From there you should be able to find the drivers for your board.

These suggestions assume that you are using on board graphics (meaning you do not have a video card)
