is there anyway of removeing password protection from xp home edition when i reboot my pc? my friend cant  remember the password and now she cant shut down her comp. i know sounds silly and it is but this is really becoming a problem and could use some expert advice. i promised id help out but iam really stumped. jpshakehead.sml

The easiest way is to start in Safe Mode - usually accessed by pressing F8 during the bootup process. You will be offered the option of logging in as Administrator. If no password has been set for the Administrator account, you can just press enter.

Once logged in, you can then go to Control Panel/User Accounts and remove or change the password of the main user account.

 ypeace thx guys both ideas are on the money but i went with Essexboy suggestion and read this site and downloaded this recovery tool that i think will do the trick but i have to wait 48 hrs. for an e-mail reply or pay 25 bucks to get it sooner.i think shes gonna have to wait cuz iam not forking over the cash.  loginrecovery.com  thx guys for the help   you guys are truly computer gods to me hooray hooray hooray bearhug
