I personally don't have as much experience with Firewire...iit's just been too pricy...so I stick with USB 2.0...

What is the difference in speed between USB 2.0 and Firewire Anyhow..?

Hi

The difference between USB2 and Firewire is:

FireWire:

A super-fast data link between a PC and devices such as digital camcorders.

Manly that is all it is used for, never known it to be used for anything else.

It is suppose to be upto 4 time faster than USB2.

USB2 can be also used for Printer's etc.

When I find out more about it, will update this thread.

From my understanding USB2 operates at up to 480 mbps while Firewire(1394) operates at 400 mbps.

Firewire will always be faster than usb2 . Usb2 relies heavily on the pc, whereas firewire works independently.
Firewire will run at the 400mbps quoted, whereas usb2 will rarely run at anywhere near the theoretical maximum of 480mbps, because of bottlenecks within the pc bus.

When using USB to download from a camcorder there are invariably losses which do not occur with firewire. There is an improved version of Firewire operating a 800mbps, not seen any available yet through.
Google Firewire 800

My Firewire card was only about £13, not expensive.
My external hard drive caddy will also use firewire

I would prefer the familiar usage of USB 2.0 but Firewire is worth considering.
