I have rome total war and would like to play online against someone.
I believe this is the site to do it http://arena.gamespy.com/ladder/25998
and this is the Rome Total war site http://www.rometotalrealism.org/
It seems rather complicated and is there anyone who has experiance of this and how to do it would be appreciated. I have looked at the site but am still none the wiser as to
1 get someone  to play against
2 set up a connection
3 who does the connection
4 firewall setting/anti virus etc

So can someone enlighten me please?

Just had a look at the site and the first thing I notice is that there is no help section.  You are just asked to download the game file, which shouldn't be a problem if you scan it with your AV before running .  If you go to play it I would suggest you keep your AV on high sensitivity  and monitor all outgoing traffic from your firewall.  It looks like you would need a DSL connection to get good play.  Prior to this I would investigate the forum on your second link to get a feel for how it is run. I'm going for a quick scan now.

This is the only thread that appears to have any real info in it.  Maybe there is a set of FAQ in the download.  There was none on any of the boards that I could see.  Have fun

Thanks i have already had a good look round the rome site and even asked how to play on line but got no joy, the game spy site was picked up as someone mentioned it on a link.
As far as i can so far make out you have to open ports to allow multiplayer games?I have downloaded the gamespy but am now at a loss as to how to procede?
I will trudge on through it and no doubt will get there.I guess i was just being lazy asking for the answer :study:

No, because someone may know something you don't 'cos there are some sites out there that infect you with malware etc with the incentive of a free game.  When you download these things allways do a spyware check when it is installed just in case.  Remember the only stupid question is one that you don't ask..
