Article: Clean Prefetch To Boost Performance
  Windows XP, by default, caches the files that are used during the system boot.  It does this to store data in the memory in order to be able to boot faster.  Prefetch files can begin to build up and should be deleted out once in awhile.  Follow this Guide to Do that.

,

  A window will open up with a bunch of files.  All of these files are prefetch files.  Simply, click CONTROL + A to select all files,

 {mosypn center}
   Then hit Delete, then Enter.

  Then hit Yes.   You have now successfully cleaned up your prefetch files.
