Article: Disable Indexing Service
 

 
[blockquote]The indexing service is a service that creates a database of all files stored on your computer.  This service hogs a lot of system resources and is generally not needed (the only time it is ever somewhat helpful is if you perform lots of searches).  This service is set to Automatic by default.  To disable it, do the following:

 
[blockquote][blockquote]Click Start then Run, then type    

sc config cisvc start= disabled

then click OK

 


 
You should then see a black window pop up and disappear quickly.  That is normal (when you do a Run command, you are actually entering a DOS command in, so to execute the command, windows auotm
