I downloaded the new version of Zone alarm, which I have been using for a long time, but the latest version would not work.  Said something like, "validation failed, probably missing a root file"

After three attempts I gave up, deleted it and went back to the previous version.  I did let zone labs know why I was uninstalling it but have heard no more from them.

Anyone else had this experience? :(

Fraid not. I had the old ZA and last week I got a notification that there was a new upgrade so I clicked and the installation went fine and overwrote the older version aswell no problems. Sorry I can't help you there though.  :(
