Strange as it may seem but I cannot start Firefox anymore. Strange, strange, strange. When I click the exe the program shows as running in Windows Task Manager but the program does not appear on screen. Funnier thing even. I use a program called Folder Lock. This same problem occurred a while back with Folder Lock and then just the other day with FireFox. I have no idea what to do about it. I haven't changed anything nor have I installed any new programs before the problem started.

Anyone have any ideas or similar experience?

Firefox is prone to doing that sometimes, usually with an error message. I have fixed it by going into Task Manager and ending the running process for FF, then starting it again.  Either that or a reboot.

I haven't noticed the problem since I updated to 1.5.04, what version of FF do you have?

I have FireFox 1.8. I tried ending the process and restarting, I also tried to reboot. I also tried to erase the access rule from my firewall (Mcafee Firewall) in the hope that when restarting the program, the firewall would detect it and ask for permission. Funny thing though, the firewall didn't even see it when I restarted Firefox. Damn the luck!. This is also happening to another program I was using called Folder Lock. I still haven't gotten that one to work.

It might be due to a plugin not working properly. It might be better to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. (Or you could try removing plugins and see if that cures it.)

Incidentally, the latest version is Firefox 1.5.04.  Have you got the full Mozilla suite, not just Firefox?

I would also suggest a full spyware, virus scan.  This could be caused by some kind of maleware.
