Jason I have a similar-ish problem. If I use photoshop, somehow it messes with the sound card and I have to restart to get sound.
I was using it this morning and the sound is off now.
I checked the services as stated above and it tells me that the audio is started?
Any idea why Photoshop would interfere with the sound like this?

Strum,

I forgot to include the check for your Mainboard Sound Driver Service.   This one, is dependant on what type of mainboard sound you have (on my system I have SOUNDMAX, however yours could be C-MEDIA or INTEL AUDIO or ...??)  Scroll through the rest of the services to locate what yours is, and make sure it is also set to STARTED.

Hi J, thanks. I restarted and have the sound back as usual, checked the services again and my realtek card is not even in the list!???

Intriguing I have a realtek onboard sound card and there are no services for it in MSC or Windows Audio.  Yet it works perfectly

I am sure that it is not a requirement for them to have a service.    Soundmax does..from the sounds of things, Realtek does not.   So, I guess I should of made the comment that each configuration is different and you may not have a service listed for your sound (apart from Windows Audio).

Sorry Jason, never got back to you. I reinstalled Photoshop and everything is fine. I have no idea why photoshop was messing with the soundcard though!
