Hello, this is my first post. 

Basically, I installed Vista Transformation Pack 5.5 and decided it wasn't for me. When I uninstalled it I was left with the custom animations for moving & deleting files, the original windows ones weren't restored. Also neither were the icons. After looking through their forums and getting confused I decided that the best thing to do would be to do a repair install of xp ...skip to the end... but when I boot from the cd I see no option to repair only to install as in lose all my files, or exit!!!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
PS: I have already tried the "SFC /scannow" and it scans and does nothing whether my xp cd is in the drive or not.

Thanks for your reply but my problem is that I have no repair option when booting from my CD.

I can't repair, I only have the option of a full install (Reformatting and losing everything).

I shall wait with anticipation!

I was actually playing with shell32.dll in reshacker and managed to remove them that way.

Use it to transfer all your data files and all your settings from one PC to another, or as a backup.

You can just transfer settings or files if that's what you want.

My first question is, is the XP CD you are using a Burned copy?  If it is, then I would suggest using the original Microsoft made CD (possibly you could borrow it from a friend).   

If you are in fact using the official XP Pro CD From Microsoft, then you do have the Repair Option.  What is happening, is that for some reason, The XP Installer Disk is not Seeing your C:/Windows Directory (so it thinks that there is no version off Windows to Repair).   

I had a few ideas on how to get around this problem...

If you can get into Windows XP now, instead of launching the Repair option by Booting from the disk, why don't you boot into Windows like normal, then stick the disk in (and choose the "UPGRADE" Option....the UPGRADE option is the same thing as a Repair Install)

Second idea was, why don't you just do a System Restore and restore to a date and time that was before you installed the bad program...?

You are probably trying to use a disc that is XP service pack 1 and your system is updated to SP2.

In the event of a complete reinstall, you can save yourself a lot of hassle by being prepared beforehand. Especially if you have XP pre SP2 to start with. (You can't use the recovery console  from a pre SP2 disk when you have SP2 installed.)

This might be too late for you. You might be able to solve it by borrowing somebody  else's SP2 disc and using that for a repair install.

Thanks for all your help guys. I decided to start afresh and did a complete re-install. Thanks for the info on the files and settings transfer wizard. All your help was much appreciated and hopefully i'll know what to do if it happens again!
