This is weird, but this is what is happening.
When I either do a shutdown or restart, I lose my audio card.
This is on a Toshiba laptop w/ XP Pro and Intel 82801 CA/CAM AC'97 Audiio Controller.
The way I know this is, when it reboots, the volume control icon is not in the task bar.
Go into device manager and the controller has an exclamation point next to it.
Uninstall it, reinstall it, add the volume icon, play music, all is fine.
Shutdown or restart and it's gone again...have to do the uninstall, etc.
Any ideas? (this also happens with my CD drive, sometimes it shows up in My Computer
and Win Explorer and sometimes it doesn't...I usually have to reboot with a disk in it to get it
to show up)

Could this be a permissions issue?

Try to install the Audio Controller Driver in Safe Mode.

Thanks for the reply.
That's something I hadn't thought about. Next time I shut down, I'll
give that a try and see what happens.
