I have check everything from sound card to uninstalling and reinstalling. My sound playback is greyed out, speaker icon is missing but my soundcard shows up under sound recording which I can use the mic, voice playback is modem #2 line playback which I can't change because it is the only thing in the dropbox so this is it oh yea my soundcard is creative soundblaster pci  glupek2

This could indicate a problem with your speakers with windows showing that you don't have any.  Are your speaker cables connected correctly with no broken/bent cables. If your speakers are of the powered type is it getting power or has a fuse blown in the plug.  Is there a broken connection on your soundcard output.

My speakers are just a plug in and I didn't think it would be my speakers because I can talk on the mic I just cant get my .wav files  to play and the light shows when I turn it on and I have also tested the speakers by taking a little plug out the back and sticking something in the back of it to test the sound

First of all, check that your sounds has been set up correctly.

Go to Control Panel and open up Sounds and Audio Devices.

In the Volume tab, you should see Speakers - click on the Advanced button.

Does the Speakers tab show "Desktop stereo speakers"?

Also, in the Volume tab, check the  Device Volume settings, the slider shouldn't be too far to the left and there should be no ticks in the boxes. Clkick on the Advanced button here too - make sure that nothing is muted.

When you tested your speakers, how did you do that exactly? Did you test for an output at the speakers themselves? The only real way to test them is to try another pair of speakers connected.

I cannot change anything because it is greyed out the only thing that did right was the sound recording and the voice recording the sound playback and the voice playback has "modem #2 playback device as the default" I can't change the volume because it has no audio device on it. I tested my speakers by removing a plug from the back of it and I inserted a pin in the back of it and it made sound as i was told to do and also I can hear music under midi but most of my sounds comes from .wav files such as the log on,and music that I listen too

OK, let's assume your speakers work.

If you can't see any audio device in the Sounds & Audio Devices, have you checked Device Manager to see if your soundcard is recognised and working?

"modem #2 playback device as the default

Can you change this drop down to your sound card as the indication are that it is trying to use your modems functions instead of the dedicated sound card.

I have done all of that I have uninstall and reinstall my devices and my soundcard is coming up but not for sound output and the modem #2 is the only choice it will let me choose. I been in device manager and there is no exclamation marks if I'm missing something its not letting me know if I have a conflict or what because it is showing working fine

Pleas download this small programme http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php install and run.  When it runs select the multi media option, when it has the data then select FILE > SAVE AS  and save as a text file to your desktop then post the data back here

OK it look like windows is not recognising your PCI card as a playback device.

First we will try uninstalling the device and then let windows rediscover it .

Go to control panel and select system and on the hardware tab select
device manager then right click the sound card and select uninstall.

Reboot and let windows re-detect your sound card, if it does not then go to control panel and select add hardware then follow the wizard directions, you may need to re-install your drivers so have them handy

If that fails then we are probably looking at a card problem

Any sound card as long as it fits your slots.  However, as one final attempt before you get a new card run the add hardware wizard and see if that kick starts the system

Time for a new soundcard .......
