MOD OF MY  POST

ive recently had my phone replaced with the same model so it's the exact same phone just a different one ive used this:

the phone it a Samsung (sgh) t809 to my xp based blue tooth capable laptop
these are the directions i have used in the past to set up my old phone and it worked fine

"t809 via  Establish a bluetooth connection between your laptop and your phone
Once you've established a bluetooth connection (this is a separate issue than using the internet connection, but probably you have this done already if you have BT), I believe you need to set your phone to Modem rather than USB Mass Storage Device (which the latter was default for my t809). Your laptop should have installed yer phone after all this and registered it as a modem. WITH your phone connected via Bluetooth, do the following...
1. Start-> Control Panel-> Phone and Modem Options
2. Modems tab -> double-click Standard Modem over Bluetooth link. If you don't see this, your device is not properly setup on Bluetooth probably. Make sure you "authorize" your laptop on the "My Devices" on your phone.
3. Advanced tab -> Enter this in the Extra initialization commands:
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
This is for the $2.99-$5.99 t-zones/t-mobile web service. Otherwise you would replace "wap" with "internet2" or "internet3". Then press OK twice.
4. in Control Panel -> Network Connections
5. Under Network Tasks-> Create New Connection. Next-> Connect to the Internet-> Next ->
6. Set up my connection manually-> Next -> Connect using dial-up modem
7. Only Check mark next to Modem - Standard Modem over Bluetooth link (COM#) -> Next->
8. Type any name for it you want, such as T-Mobile. -> Next ->
9. Phone Number: *99#
10. Next -> Left all username/etc fields blank -> Next ->
11. Checkmark Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop (if you want, i find this to be an easier method).
12. Finish.
13. Dial. Aren't you glad you use it. Don't you wish everyone did"

ive only had this problem since my new phone came into the picture

ive had the number be dialed then go through some other stages to fast to read and then i or the computer gets stuck on registering on the network(i got some error number ~737~ i think and one of the probable cause was that some security settings are not compatible

and i have been through the setup process on the phone

so with these directions is there a alternate way of doing things to make a connection to the internet through a cell phone(i used to get a pop up message connect to DUN on my phone and i think that since its properly talking to each other there is a little lost in translation effect going on

thanks and merry holidays and amazing luck in the new year

Hi Wanabe, and Happy New Year to you too.

Apart from the fact that I don't have Bluetooth, nor any experience of using it or setting it up, I am totally confused by what you have posted.

You seem to have mixed up some instructions with your own comments??

Just what is going wrong and at what stage?
Have you only experienced a probnlem since getting the new phone?
Have you been through the setup process for the new phone?
