Hi,

I recently bought a hp pavilion ze5200 off eBay.  It has a Conexant AC-Link Audio Card.

When it arrived, the sound was working fine but I decided to perform a quick format to get rid of anything left from the previous owner.  It came with no recovery discs, so I reinstalled XP Professional, and downloaded the necessary drivers.

It is now working perfectly, except for the sound.  I hae downloaded and then subsequently removed several drivers for the sound card from different sources due to lack of success each time.  The most recent driver has been recognised by the device manager, and is listed in Add/Remove Programmes.  It has no exclamation or red mark next to it in device manager.

I used Windows Update and the driver installed is digitally signed etc.  The volume control is fine apart from pc speakers in the advanced control which is greyed out.

I flashed the Bios, restarted etc. and nothing seems to be working.  The soundcard was fine yesterday, so I can't understand the problem!!

Please help!!!!!!!!!

Thank-you soooo much.

Are you saying that you got the sound working, then flashed the BIOS after that?

If so, then it was the flashing of the BIOS that caused the problem. I can't help you on that, it's outside of my expertise.

Have you tried to reinstall the drivers?
Is the status in device manager still showing as OK?

Sorry, no, I musn't have made myself clear.  Since formatting, the sound has not been working.  One of the steps I took to try and rectify the problem, after taking advice from another website, was to flash the BIOS.  I used the HP BIOS programme.  The sound was not working before I flashed the BIOS, and is still not working.

Thanks

After formatting, have you reinstalled the drivers for the sound card?

HP routinely uses proprietary drivers for their sound (and sometimes video).  This can be a MAJOR headache.    There are several driver stockpile sites out there that could help.

You'll need to go to one of them and use your make and model of computer to get the right driver.  (just the sound card info IS NOT usually enough for HP drivers).

would LOVE to give you the info on which driver site I use but I'm at work not at home where it is book-marked.

Make sure your virus protection is up to date.  Most of these sites use drivers submitted by users.
