I spent hours over the weekend applying rules to messages in Outlook Express.
I applied rules for the "from" senders and the subject line also in the same emails just to be sure to be sure...but I got loads of the same spam today form the same emails I applied the rules to.
Is this a ineffectual flaw in OE or am I missing something?
Cheers for any feedback.

Well, it depends on what/how you set the rules up Strum.

It's easy to miss a step in setting up rules. It's also going to be an almost pointless exercise with spam/junk messages because they keep changing. Have you considered using Mailwasher to sift out the junk before you download?

If you want to figure out what might be wrong with the rules you've set up, there's a tutorial here:

http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/topics/email/general/853/

If you want more, post some screen shots of a sample rule and I'll see if I can spot anything wrong.

Thanks Dave. I'll check out the link fisrst and let you know. I don't know what the hell I signed up for but I'm getting about 200 spams a day now and thats only recently, and doing my head in having to filter through them all...I have a suspicion that the "subject" line is better that the "from" to set the rules to because the "from" doesn't show email addresses only names.
Oil be bak!

EDIT: Ha Dave, I was on that site last night actually...I'm going to try a few different rules and experiment with them and see how it works out and I'll let you know what works if anything.
Thanks again!  :)

Get Mailwasher if it's that bad Strum.

At least you can bulk delete them before downloading real messages with that.

Or - if you are prepared to pay for something, I know a few folk who say good things about Choicemail:

Again Dave Thanks...I'll check out that link.
Unfortunately I don't have a credit card to do anything online because banks don't like me after running up major bills with them (a lot to do with dial-up) so I can't get mailwasher full version and the free one only scans 1 account...
Gawd its so much work to keep spammers at bay... I'd be a rich man if I had a cent for every spammer I could strangle!!!  glupek2
