I have just upgraded from cd rw to sony aw-g170a dvd rw and I find that I can't drag and drop any more to the disk. All it does is tell me to insert a writeable cd!! Am I doing something wrong or doesn't xp support D&D on dvds?
I got a copy of Nero 7 essentials with the drive but I don't like using it and InCd is also rubbish. All I want is to copy data and photos on to the disk and be able to play them on other pcs.
Can any one advise me?
Thanks

To explain this you need to first understand why Drag and Drop worked with a CD.   When you are dragging and dropping, you are using Windows Explorer, which we know is a part of Windows XP.   What that means is that Windows XP supports CD Burning (if it didn't, then it would not be possible to drag and drop).

So, as you probably have already figured out the answer....Windows XP does not support DVD Burning.   That technology was not widely available back when Win XP was made.   So dragging and dropping to DVD Will not work in XP (it does work in Windows Vista though).

So in WIndows XP, You will need to have some kind of program, such as Nero 7, installed on your PC to be able to burn to a DVD.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought as much myself. I won't be upgrading to Vista just yet, not just for drag and drop to work.
Tell me, if I use nero 7 to copy files and photos and then stick the dvd in another pc, will that pc need nero 7 to be able to read the disk?
