Ben,

When you say that IE and FF don't work, what do you mean?

Do they start, but you are unable to access any pages, or do the programs not actually open?

I would strongly advise you to add firewalls to your computers. Zone Alarm is free and is good.

Yes, we need some more information to troubleshoot this further.

What Version of XP are you running (Home, Pro, MCE)?
What type of computer is it that you are having trouble with?
How are the PC's connected to the internet (are the all connecting through one PC, or via a Hub or switch, or connected individually)?
What steps have you already tried?

   Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

   What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

     Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.

If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

For offline users

You can still view subscribed feeds and some recently viewed webpages.

The fact that you have AOL browser working OK indicates that it is just a setting somewhere that needs correcting.

Take the tick out of the box to use a proxy server. You might find it all works then.

Post back if it doesn't.

Quote from AOL page:

Internet Explorer security settings set too high may restrict your internet access. Follow the instructions below to set the security settings back to default.

   1. Click on Start, then Settings and Control Panel
Windows XP/Vista users: Click Start and then Control Panel
   2. Double-click on Internet Options
Windows XP/Vista users may need to click Switch to Classic View first
   3. Click the Security tab.
   4. In security settings select the Zone which you want to set the default settings for and click on the Default level button.
   5. Click on Apply and then OK.

Ben,

Can we get some clarification of the exact problem here. Reading again what you have said, I think you are saying this:

Any computer that  is connected wirelessly works just fine.

Any computer that is connected using ethernet cable is failing to connect to the Internet using any browser.
BUT - AOL browser works when on the ethernet connection.

Is this correct?

Do you have AOL installed on all the computers?

This may sound stupid, or even obvious, but in your Firefox Click "File->Work Offline" and the same in IE.

That's my two cents.
