Don/Jason

I posted a message last night/this am. :D  in the Hows That thread.
Unfortunately, as is my wont, it wasn't very well worded and several posts after that one enjoyed at my expense the dodgy wording.

So I said to myself lets see if I can edit it though not really expecting to be able to do so. Lo and behold I could edit it even hous after it was posted and more messages had been added to the thread. Don this is not on. All replies could be made a mockery of if editing of a message can take place after it's been responded to. I mean the whole content of the initial message could be changed to make the responder appear a fool.

I reckon you should only able to edit a post up to 15 minutes after posting it or until its replied to, whichever comes 1st.

What do the rest of you think?

...nah, I think you will find Pedro that most forums like this have an editing feature in place....it can have advantages too I would say....

so I think the editing feature should remain, even if it can be removed.

don

what pedro is meaning I think is that when you make a post, you can change the post completely from the original so that further responses could perhaps be construed differently...and perhaps make others look silly...

to be honest, I think this is taking things to the extreme.....I shouldnt think there are many people here wishing to make others look silly just for the sake of it, I mean GET A LIFE if they do make habits of editing stuff just to make someone look daft?  I think Pedro has gone a bit ahead of himself, but I understand what he means....

I think the editing feature enhances a forum, and helps for when you make spelling mistakes or wish to add something pertinent or whatever...after all, it does say at the bottom of the post that its been edited....

However, Pedro, put a link to the post you are referring to?

Peter can see where you are coming from but nothing I can do now.

If you read the reply properly on what was put, you answered it back ok, but as daisy has said nothing can be done about it.

Also I have even posted myself we all have, it looks ok then when we read it again when it is on the board, you realise you have made a great mistake but will you are eding it someone make another posting.

Peter don't get up set you are among good friends here ok.

Daisy

I welcome the editing facility but there should be a time limit on how long it could be used after posting the message for reasons I stated in my 1st post. Other forums I use all have time limits on the editing feature and none of them will let a message be edited if there is a message posted after it in the same thread

I take you point Pedro...

Perhaps its just a little longer than the others... Don?  Perhaps there is a time limit function that you can alter?  I should think a week or so...then you are barred from amendments... LOL

Peter,

There's a lot of people around that can manage to look a fool without bothering with the edit facility. It could come in handy to be able to help out if they fail to.

Peter, you cant put a time limit on the edit function with phpBB (forums)– you allow edit or  don’t unfortunately.

Peter
You could always post an ancilliary message to clarify your original one.
Editing is good for typos, or for changing links that don't work.
Failing that you could quote your original message inside the new one. That way you would retain your integrity

Hi Blade

If that's the case it's six to one half a dozen to the other. Do you want to allow numbskulls, there is a preview available, to genuinely edit their posts or do you want this forum left open to devious members to bugger it up? That's only assuming we have devious members

Hi Peter, it’s no good asking me,  ask Don or the Admin, I’m just saying they only have two options. Let the members edit - Yes or No.

Nik

What the hell's the preview panel for if it obscures typos. Bad links can be amended in a later post. If the preview function was used properly there should be no need to edit posts. Now taking the Ovaltine factor into account the edit function can be a saving get out clause especially if you can edit your post into the next centuary.

Who invented this load of crap for this forum's format? Most of my other forums have a time limited edit facility.

Peter, then they can’t be phpBB, I haven’t seen one yet that can. If you can show me a phpBB that can? I would be grateful.   :D

Blade over a year ago I was a member of a couple of Yahoo, I think, holiday forums and both of them had time limited editing. I suppose I'm still a member of both. One was
