Hello, I am new but to site and xp.  I am having trouble with my wireless connection.

I have an Acer 5100, XP sp2, atheros wireless, Hughes cable internet, belkins router.  Have had computer and equipment since early December.  No connection problems at all.  First of March, went out out town, turned my computer off and did not use it again for four days.  When I logged on, I had no wireless connection.

For three days I have read and tried to follow every Network connection repair forum I could find.  I could use some assistance is someone is available.

I have no problem logging on with ethernet connection.  Wireless connection shows up, and normally connects automaticaly.  Since last normal login, connect has changed from auto to manual and try as I might I cannot change it.
It will not pick up the IP address.  I just get 0's in every field.  I have let is sit and try to renew address for 20 minutes and it will not recognize address.  I did a release and a renew and it didn't help.  Authentication is greyed out also and is inoperable.  I personally did not make any changes and I am the only person using this computer.

I have a suspicion that it may be a wareout infection.  But I could be wrong.  However, to verify my suspicion could you do the following for me please

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Try pulling the power from the wireless router wait 10-15 seconds and plug it back in, that flushes the radio's buffer and resets all beacons outgoing.  Now try connecting again.

Then, if that doesn't work...

Are you using the Wireless Zero Configuration from windows or the Laptops wireless client software?

Wireless Zero Configuration Screen

Linksys Client Config

Or something else?

Actually now I am on a wireless router John I would go with your solution as I had a similar problem and the way I fixed it was to go to the router setup page thingy and disconnect then reconnect.  Worked for me
