My XP is having problem shutting down and this happened for a while already

When I try to shut down the computer, it is frozen in the empty explorer page and I have to pull the power off to shut down the computer.

In the past couple of months, I used the process explorer software to manually close down the programs and after that I then use the shutdown function in the software to power off the computer and it works most of the time.

But yesterday, presumably after an automatic update from Windows, the computer cannot be shut down even withb process explorer.

Any guys here can tell me what is wrong with my XP and how to fix it.

When I first discovered the problem, I re-installed XP already and this did not help.

There could be a number of reasons why XP is freezing on shutdown. Have a look at the site below and work your way through potential issues:

A more powerful tool to tweak XP is available, but it may have settings that you will find 'bewildering'. I've not tried it myself, so use with care if you decied to try it:
