HELP! - I'm running Windows XP on a Dell 4550 and believe that all service packs are up to date. It has been running slow. Hard drive was near full. I clared 15% and cleaned of spyware and optimized.

Computer was on and when I came back to it screen is pure white. Could not access anything. Killed power. On restart white screen blinks a few times and then stays solid white. Tried F8 on start up but still get white screen. Any insight would be appreciated.

What options did you try - Safe Mode? Last Known Good Configuration?
Is it the same in Safe Mode?

What spyware was removed? How did you detect it?
You might like to consider shifting some data onto removable media so that more disk space is cleared.

The Problem is that I can't even get to Safe Mode and can't access the hard drive to remove more files.

Spyware Blaster removed a bunch of cookies, but no actual spyware.

I have the exact same problem.  I have no idea what's causing it.  It only happens when I boot to safe mode.  I thought maybe the safe boot took longer to load the video drivers or something, but nothing but an annoying white screen.

Sounds like a video card problem as the generic drivers are loaded in safe mode
