Have you tried the add new hardware wizard in control panel,  after it has done the search you can then select the device to add.  Try that and see if it works

i have a add hardware im sure its the same thing, mind you this is version mswindows professinal version 2002 sp1

so i went to add hardware and it does its little scan but nadda, the only thing there that looked like or even reminded me of a netadaptor was ethernet controller. ill figure out how to post screens in a sec and put the device manager up if it would help.

thanks for the quick reply.

In Device Manager, does it show you an installed network card in Network Adapters? Does the device have an yellow warning icon?

You may need the drivers for your particular card, and they may be on a CD.
If you delete the card in Device Manager, then reboot, Windows should search for the appropriate driver - browse to the CD where they are.

Once you have this up and running, don't forget to update with SP2 and all updates after that.

now nothing and it says i dont have the network stuff there by it being not present in the devicemanager list

i have a drivers cd last time i reinstalled windows on this computer i didnt need a diffreent cd so its the only one i need

Try taking the network card physically out of its slot in the PC, then reinserting it.
If necessary, try in different slot.

You can't go wrong really. The card is in a slot, it's the card that has the ethernet cable socket on it.

Pull it out carefully, re-seat it. Reboot and see if it's working.

It's possible that the card has stopped working by a strange coincidence. A replacement card won't be too expensive if you decide to change it.

Please download and run http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

Unfortunately I have deleted my XP partition now So when you run it I would like you to generate the hardware report and post it here

A screen shot is here http://www.cpuid.com/pics/pcw1.jpg

so i went in to go pull out the card to try and reset it manly
only on closer inspection i realized there is no card
it seems to be attached to a bunch of usb ports and the mouse plug area i know even less of hard ware than i do of software soo yea i think the big green board that every thing is attached to is the motherboard any way it seems like the Ethernet cord plugs almost directly in to the motherboard there is a small 1''x1.5''x.5'' silver box right where the cord plugs into and there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to detach it

but there is something there, so says pc wizard

just some more info
