Hi,
my friend's hp pavilion has been freezing up a lot lately.  Last night froze again, she shut it down and now when the power button is pressed the computer just starts beeping.  Sounding an alarm?
Any help is appreciated.

This indicates a hardware problem, and to analyse what exactly is causing it requires (1) knowing how many beeps, (2) the stage that the beeps occur and (3) the tyoe if beeps (long, short etc).

Unfortunately, it also requires some knowledge of the particular motherboard because each manufacturer may use different beep sequences. As an example of a motherboard that has been used by HP (not the only one), here's a link describing what beep codes might indicate:

If we get past that, there's then the matter of repairing/changing hardware.

If the computer is getting old, might be time to consider replacing it.

hey thanks for your feedback.
I ran into a geek friend today who suggested it might be the memory.
I switched out one of the memory installed and all appears to be well.
thanks again,
