Hi

Only a minor niggle really - every time i boot up the machine, there is no wireless network found.

I then have to click on network settings, find the router a4200 alnd click on 'change advanced settings'. Click the middle tab and check the box for "let windows configure my settings".

Once this is done - everything runs fine... it's just a pain in the backside having to re-check this box everytime the machine boots up.... What am i missing???????

Acer 4200 lappy, XP Pro using wireless link to a BT Homehub.

Any help would be apreciated!

Are you using a wireless adapter?  If you are, have you installed the software for the adapter? Or, are you using built in wireless detection on the laptop?

built in wireless...

there's absolutely no problems once i've checked the box, just xp doesn't remember that i checked the box on reboot!!!

there's bt's own intrusive and memory hogging apps installed - though i can't see how the bt connection manager might try and override things...
Anyone any experience of which bt apps i can ditch safely? The broadband help and yahoo messenger are already stopped from starting if it helps...

Cheers!

You don't need to install any of the BT software as far as I know.

I'm with BT Internet too, and I don't use any of their programs. I have a hub, but I've not yet got around to installing it - I like my Belkin Pre-N router.

Give me a while, I'll set up the hub and see if I have any problems connecting wirelessly. I have a laptop with a PCI adapter plus a PC with USB adapter.

appreciate the help...

the broadband help utility has got to be the worst thing. ever. on first starting - it needed a HUGE update before it would run, and it still doesn't even recognise the hub - even though it's connected through it!

Incidentally - my desktop pc is connected via the ethernet cable and has no problems - with same software installed.

Great - sorry I didn't contribute much, I still haven't had time to connect up the BT hub.

I wouldn't have installed any of the software anyway, so I might have been 'misleading' you.

Well done and thanks for coming back to let us know. It's always a good idea to avoid ISP software, I've seen it cause problems quite often.
