Hi All,

Along the same lines as Uncle Viv......I'm desperate to fix glitches which annoy me a lot.

BBD (Before Brain Damage) I was exceptionally clued up on everything MS :spit: and other OS's, thanks to a zillion courses on Computer Forensics (former Defective Detective) hence the name Fed.

As the brain repairs things will get easier but I need help and having perused this forum I know I'll soon be up to speed.

Alas I doubt I'll have much time to loiter here as I've got 4 years of life to catch up on, but sending my appreciation in advance.

Kind Regards

FED
aka Dave

Can I nick your avatar please Dave?

Hi Dave,

You mean my signature? I can tell you how to find one that's your own if you want.

Sorry to hear that you have a BBD time of life - what happened?

The pointer would be much appreciated TY

Boring really.  Levered myself out of bath in renovated house, hadn't checked the grip on the new surface so walking stick slipped.  The next thing I know it's a couple of years down the line, with sweet FA going on in my brain.

I'd head butted the wall (lovely dent), my partner was used to me 'shutting down' when the spine was aggravated, but to quote her "there was something wrong when you came around".  Dr was called and I was blue-lighted to hospital where tests/ CT/MRI and 2 hourly observations revealed my brain had separated, I have water on the brain (hydrocephalus), signs of alcohol abuse (alcohol does kill off brain cells, I'd been sober for 22 years), enlarged ventricles (basically the four compartments that make up the brain) particularly the 4th ventricle which attaches to the spinal cord and a few minor things, one being a stroke, can't remember the others now.

I've got Craft's disease "Can't Remember A F'ing Thing"

These were confirmed in another hospital and I was sent home to die, blind, mute and brain dead. With a proviso an ambulance should be called if I deteriorated.  i died twice, but my wonderful partner, who never left my side, brought me back.

A clinical psychologist told her that all the information could be retrieved as the brain can re-wire itself, basically find a new pathway to the relevant bit of memory, bypassing the damaged areas.  Once the new pathway is created it means I can 'find' that particular bit again.    She worked very hard at teaching me to speak and set up a web-site for people to put in stories about me/the job, which she read to me, forcing the brain to work.

If someone wasn't aware of what happened to me and we spoke now they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.  I can, because I errrm/ahhhh when the brain is tired and struggling to find a particular word.

I didn't die (obviously), am not a vegetable as the neuro-surgeon said I would be and by the time I was able to comprehend I was told I'd be lucky to get the IQ of a 5y/o.  My response, although incoherent to all but my partner was F"#* Off I'll get back into MENSA.

I haven't had a totally blind period for the last 10 months, although my left eye is going now, as I've been reading too much today, it'll be OK by morning. (My brain swells and presses on the optic nerves).

In the last few days I've started to arrange re-training on some old computer forensic programs, so I can get that memory re-installed, in preparation for catching up with the advances in the last 4 years.

In proper computer speak I've had a 'head-crash' and data recovery from such an event is a slow process  but the brain is like a computer, I just need a scan-disk thorough, de-fragging, then get the FAT re-aligned. with a load of tweaks to the registry.

I've astounded the medical community and will continue too, because I WILL be working by the time I'm 50 (21 months).

I may not be able to do a lot of my specialisms (multi-tasking is needed to manage Major Incident Rooms),  plus I've got PTSD relating to 'too much trauma throughout my working life' - death and destruction as well as paedo and rape cases have been unleashed from their compartments, causing horrific 'flash-backs', there's a long list of 'trigger words', totally innocuous words in any other circumstance which should have no impact on me, but they cause a severe reaction.

I'm an avid news follower, who's not been able to listen to, or watch any news since May, when the demons were unleashed, nor can I watch my favorite TV progs, as they're all 'job related'. The CSI's, Law & Orders, Criminal Minds to name a few.

Nonetheless I can still laugh and take the mickey out of myself as I've never done the sympathy thing and cut people off who do it.  Take the p!$$, empathise by all means but that 'S' word comes between excrement and 'the clap' in my dictionary and I've no place for them either  ywink

Bored now .....?

My mother dropped me on my head into the bath when I was a baby. It didn't have the same effect on me though - you've had a hard time, and you've fought back.

I hope your action to regain memory works for you, so far so good eh?

As for the signature - just try a Google search for 'animated signatures' - you'll soon find something.
