Operating System- Windows XP Service Pack 2
SATA Hard DIsk
AMD Sempron Processor
ATI Radeon Xpress Graphics Accelerator

The problem is- when windows starts, it will display a message saying that a file was not found. When I click OK, the message disappears and windows will be working normally. What do I do??

Tell us what the file is first.

(The whole error message will be helpful.)

The Error message says-
"Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\Config\lsass.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click start."

It's possible that this is a left over registry key from a trojan that has been removed. Analysis using a HijackThis log would be best to sort this out.

We have a security specialist (Essexboy) who will help you on this, but you will need to download HijackThis and run it to produce a log. Then copy/paste the log into your next post.

You could also consider registering at Virus Vault for experts to deal with it.

(Wait for Essxeboy first though, he should be along later today.)

Hi and sorry for the delay been a bit busy lately - it is a trojan remant

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt  -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
