MMDRIVER.INF sytem32 issue

Whilst trying to run the microphone wizard i discovered that when i try to enter the sound and audio devices in the control panel i get an error message saying that system32 is missing MMDRIVER.INF then it proceeds to the dialogue box fine.
i cant install it from disc1 because the vendor who sold me my computer failed to provide it (this is standard practice i'm told! i think it's stupid but thats another matter.)
Also on shut down i'm getting end program explorer.exe this has happened since i used windows blinds to mod my desktop about a week ago. having only just discovered the driver issue i have know time frame for that.
I've ran AVG free and windows defender and found no virus issues.

First of all, try a systme restore to before you installed the Windows Blinds mod.
Then, if you still have the problem with the mmdriver.inf :-
If you can borrow a Windows XP CD, do this:
You're going to need your Windows XP installation CD.
Put the CD in the drive.
Go to Start -> Run and enter cmd.exe in the Open box.
In the command prompt window enter the following:
Expand X:\I386\mmdriver.in_ %windir%\System32\mmdriver.inf
Note: Substitute the correct drive letter for X and leave a space
between _ and %.
Hit the enter key.
Close the command prompt window and see if the file is now where
it should be.
If you can't get access to an XP CD, try this:
Look for a copy of the I386 folder on your hard drive. See if you can
expand the file from that location.
