On the subject of allowing Guests to View The forum.  I have been actively testing the various permission settings to see the effect.  IF you guys recall about a week ago (when that feature was avail), we seemed to be stuck at 79 members.  We were stuck at 79 for a LONG time....we only started gaining members when I changed the permission settings to their current state.  So I really disagree with the notion that this will deter new members...because in the past week it seems to have been working (we are up to 89 now...and people are joining each day again...).

Personally I prefer to have the permissions set the way you guys are suggesting, Since Gaining Members is the #1 priority, I have to leave it set in a manner that is working.

I think once we get up to 500 or 1000 members that the Snowball effect will kick in so then I can relax about this setting.  But at the moment, every member counts and this setting seemed to jump start members joining again.  I think if I hadn't done this, that we'd probably be at 79 members still....
I do see where you are coming from here but would it not be better to get members signing who either need help or who can contribute?  There are a number of members who have never posted - they may well have never visited since their first look.

Makes the total number a bit meaningless if they are inactive?

I appreciate that not everyone will be a prolific poster but at least you could be reasonably sure that they has signed up because they wanted to use the site.

Personally, if I couldn't have a look around to see if I liked how a forum was set up before joining I wouldn't bother.

Just my thoughts mind, you're the Boss

I'm with Hermes on this. Leave the shop window open to attract people in.

Heck - we might even get some more loonies!! That will be company for Dennis and me.

Jason, Don, Daisy,

This is just a suggestion - but if you think it's good .....

You want to see more tech support requests on here? So why not make the support panel top of the home page rather than the chat section. At the moment, the focus is on chat and banter - which has been a real laugh. But, if the chat was down the bottom of the opening page, then maybe it might shift the focus?

Allways late but heres my twopennorth, yes have the off topic elements at the bottom 'cos when people first arrive at the site they don't see the interesting bits at the bottom and may cruise on by
