When I go to the WINDOWS XP Update site and ask for updates available, I launch the updating process and whereas the patches are loaded, I receive a message signaling it's impossible to install them !!!!!
Have you a trick ? Is it possible to uninstall and reinstall the program in charge of updating ?
Regards

Do you get this error right when you sign on to Windows Update?

If so, try this open up notepad (Start, all programs, then accessories, then notepad).  Copy this:

sc config wuauserv start= auto
sc config BITS start= auto
sc config ERSvc start= auto
sc start wuauserv
sc start BITS
sc start ERSvc
start %SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe

and paste it into Notepad.  Then name the file    update.bat and save somewhere (just remember where you saved it)....then close notepad and navigate to where you saved the file.  When you find it.  Double click on it.

Windows Update now requires  that your Automatic Updates Service is running and in Automatic mode.  It also requires that your Event Log Service & your BITS (Background Information Transfer Service) is running.   The code I posted makes sure all of those services are set properly and then it launches windows update.

Try that, and see if that resolves your problem

Check to see if you have a folder

c:\windows\$hf_mig$

If you have that folder delete it.

Then I would delete All Temp Files and Cookies.  Then delete the Windows Active X Installation (located in Internet Options, then on the General tab, hit the button that says "Settings", then "View Objects"  then find the Windows Update entry and right click on it and delete it) .  then restart windows update.

It will reinitialize the active x control, then try to update...
