This is what I have received from Jason.
This was done on purpose....
I am trying to find a board mod that I can use to only allow them to edit their last post...but until I find one, I don't want users to be able to edit any post...especially old ones....
It occurred to me that if they did change old posts it would really mess up the archive. If someone changed what was said after the fact, it potentially could screw up the thread. It could make the thread not make sense and be impossible to understand. Being a Fix it site, it's important that we keep the thread as it was, so that when someone has a similar problem and is reading through an archived thread, that it makes sense and they can follow.
if they need to delete, then they should PM you or daisy.
I think that leaving it avail can be potentially destructive to the great board that we have been building up. I am hoping to find a board mod that can allow them to edit their last post only (so that way the thread cannot be screwed up cause if they edit their last post then the next post will be done after seeing the edited post..)
Hope that makes sense....I'll send this PM to daisy too so she knows...
Hope you guys agree...let me know
Jason

All,
This was done on purpose...
I am looking for a board mod that will allow you to edit your last post.
The reason this was done, was because after reading Ricky's thread and after a bit of research (I was reading up on an issue that happened on another forum), what can happen is someone can edit a post that they did months ago (or delete one) and that would really screw up the thread so that if someone was browsing the archive that it wouldn't make sense anymore...and once it's gone, we can't get it back (without having to do a restore from a backup...backups take so darn long that they are only done once a month...)
Being a Fix-It site, it is important that our archives remain intact for users that have the same problem and find the site through a Google search. So when they read the thread it makes sense to them.
Anyhow, in the meantime (until I locate and install a mod to allow you guys to edit/delete your last post), please just PM Don or Daisy if you need a delete. Also, I think I can install a spell checker.
I really think that the reasons are valid enough to justify removing the feature. Let me know what you guys think...

Nah we need to edit the spelling, all othwer forums allow this, allbeit till another post has been added after yours. We need this function, I can see the need to stop people deleting but only till another post has been added, other forums work like that.

...I have told Jason what I think about this - I dont think members would be so devious, although there will be some who may...Pedro highlighted this point some time ago wishing it to be removed for this very reason.
Meantime, all I can suggest is that you use the preview function before posting and if you do post something and have second thoughts, just pm myself or Don and we can remove or edit the post to your liking. I know I dont have a problem with that .... just make sure I am online before you do.

Would a spell checker help?
Also, there is the Preview function....that could be used a bit more
How about this...I will start a Poll to get some feedback on this...if there is an overwhelming agreeance, then so be it, I will put it back on...
I didn't mean to create any waves....just wanted to protect our archives for our new members that will be joining us in the future....
