How do you go about repairing a boot error that causes BSOD?

I first try to do a "Last Configurations That Worked"...if that doesn't work I try a SAFE BOOT , Then if that doesn't work, I do a chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr through recovery console. As a last resort I do a repair install.
