In the last couple of days I get a buzzing sound from my speakers whenever I open programs or change a webpage etc...any ideas? or is this a bit vague?
Cheers!

Sounds odd. I'll just suggest a few standard things, because I've never heard of this one before.
Make sure the cable is properly inserted into the output of your sound card.
Go into "Volume Control", if the main control (far left) is at max - try turn it down a bit and use more power from your amp instead.
Try update the sound cards drivers.
Edit: And make sure the sound card (if you don't have on-board) is properly seated.
That's about all I've got for this one lol.

Thanks Cache. First congrats on being made a mod I just noticed now!
Cables are fine, I'll follow the rest of your advice and let you know how it goes.
Thanks,

Thanks Strum. And your welcome.
It's hard to imagine exactly what would cause this. Hopefully someone else will have a answer if the above doesn't work out.

Yeah, just like now every time I click on a link it starts to buzz away and when the program/link loads it stops...but when I open up my recording studio it is constant and interferes with the recording...
The only thing I have done recently was to uninstall real player and re-install it, maybe the problem lies there. Also something seems to be hogging my soundcard because if I try to play a music track I'm told some other program is using it but in processes I can't find anything that could be using it. Anway I'll try your suggestions in the meantime and get back to you. Thanks again.

This is no fun and I'm so freaked that this "New" system is going to give up the ghost like the first one. Twice now my system has just, out of the blue, got buzzing noises when I click anything, and twice now in the last few days the system has just stopped everything and restarted...
And then this!
Shall I back up everything and bring it back? Is it a virus? although nothing of malice on the system, so it seems.
Worried...

Did you update the sound card driver yet?
And I'm not sure what you mean by "bring it back"...but of course it's always a good idea to backup your data.

Blaming a driver is the standard response from MS error reporting when they don't have a clue what the problem is.
I would turn off error reporting - it's not much help.
Speakers - are they too close to the monitor?
Check the error logs - they can often point you to what is failing.
Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer
Look in the System events log for red error icons or yellow warning icons. Clicking on them will bring up details.
Do the same in the Applications log.
Hopefully you will have some better idea of what the cause is.

Sorry had no time to get back on this but anyway no,
I cannot find an update for my specific sound driver.
Also I meant should I
bring it back
to the shop.
I cannot open up the machine to check the sound card because
if I break the seal, I break the warranty.
Cheers.

Dave the speakers are fine,
same position they were always in.
I have been going around in circles after reading into the events.
Maybe some screenshots may give you a clue?? There were quite
a lot of warnings and errors and these are the most common ones.
Thanks,

inj the event viewer, I found this in the registry and it looks well dodgy but
I don't have a clue...you will see the folder is called "
Mirosoft
" ???

Hi Strum,
The folder called "Mirosoft" is probably to do with Pinnacle Studio (I believe you have that), so nothing to worry about. As far as the speaker hum is concerned, I reckon it's a visit to the shop on that one.
Now - all these failures are (1) different each time, but (2) all related to something not letting go of registry properly. It might need a bit of detective work - like noticing what you were using prior to the failure.
You might need to cut down what's running at startup to the minimum needed (AV, firewall being very important of course) and seeing what causes the problem by reintroducing programs one at a time.
This could be a difficult one to crack, might be due to conflicting software or something. You might need a local expert to look at it - hands-on can be better than trying to do it via the forum.
I can just hear you screaming now.

Dave, not screaming no. No point. The start menu; I have had a very good check around that in the last few days but all the start up programs I have now are legitimate system processes.
Thanks for the info on "MIROSOFT" I will uninstall pinnacle because its and older version and not compatible with XP. I think!
I will persevere mate!
All the running processes are legitimate so I dont know what is hogging the soundcard when I try to open a music file?
I also noticed today that the system restore will not restore past 2 days ago and all previous restore points arew gone. I just increased the restore capacity to full on so ill see how that goes.
Hate all of this. I buy a new system, want to play music, send emails and really basic stuff and I spend more time on forums trying to find fixes than anything else.
I want Gate's guts for guitar strings!
