hello, im about to set up an adsl/modem router (on xp sp2) it comes with a built in firewall so do i need to run a software firewall aswell
and if i dont put the software firewall on will i get nagged by ms security
centre or will it find the hardware firewall.

If the router is a good one the firewall should be ok. And to stop the security centre nagging there is a fix but I am going to have to look for it

Personally, I would recommend having a software firewall as well as the router one. The Windows firewall isn't much use , only stops incoming "traffic". Zone Alarm is free and recommended - it will cover outgoing as well as incoming, so you get control over programs that have access and a chance to spot any trojan or worm that might slip through the security net.

To turn OFF the nagging Windows Security Center, got to Start/Run & type in SERVICES.MSC . Browse to "Security Center" and select "Disable" in the startup column. This will turn off all the warnings.
