hi fixmyxpians,
i have installed directx9.0b with sp2. recently i purchased pinnacle media center and this software requres directx9.0c.
now when i click on "dxsetup" to install upgraded version, i got up with installatin box. after agreeing the terms and agreements and clicking on install button, a strange thing happens. it shows that installation is completed within 2 sec and after reboot while checking the installed version frm run command(dxdiag) it still show directx 9.0b. i have a genuine directx9.0c setup and is 48.8 mb in size. i also upgrade all my system drivers and again tried but was unable to do anything.
plz help me regarding my issue.also let me know if there is any method to uninstall the directx completely.  looking forward for your compliments soon..............
                     thx

I assume you have Pinnacle on a CD. There's two possibilities, one is that either the CD or your CD drive need a clean, so try that first.

The other is that the CD is faulty - in which case go back to the supplier and request a replacement.

Hi there,

I have a few suggestions to fix this...

First, Do you have SP2 installed?   I believe that Direct X 9.0c is included with SP2, so if you only have SP1 or SP1a installed, then I would update to SP2.

The other possibility is that you are missing a security update that direct x 9.0c requires, in order for it to install.  Have you run Windows Update?  If you haven't, then run that, here is a link:

http://update.microsoft.com

If those solutions don't work for you, then check out this Microsot Support Article, It is a KB solution, here is the title of it:
"Your computer may not be updated when you install one of the DirectX security updates that is associated with security bulletin MS05-050 on a computer running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909596/en-us

Hope that helps!

Your AV program shouldn't be a problem, but it won't do any harm to disable it while installing the software. Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet while it's disabled.

You don't say if you tried cleaning your CD drive - have you?
