My sister runs ME with win 98. She has it 6 years with no problems...(seems women don't mess about with settings and never have problems)
Anyway, her husband got a new mp3 player and I was trying to load the software when I got the following error messages.

(1) CDLAUNCHER, "fatal error, not found resources modules"

(2) Cannot install for this windows version.

I'm just guessing that the software is too new for this 6yr old ME system?

But on the installation disk system requirements clearly state that it can be used with win98, ME, win 2000 and XP??

Can I download these "resources modules" to get it to run?

Cheers.

Strum,

If the disk states that it will work on ME, then maybe the disk is faulty. I'd try the manufacturers or supplier for a replacement disk. Also worth trying is cleaning the disk drive with a cleaning CD.

As for downloading the drivers needed, you have nothing to lose by going a-googling for the MP3 make etc.

Thanks Jan, ehh sorry I mean Dave. :PDT_Love_13:  :PDT_Love_13: I have realised that her system is 128MB and the installation is 200MB download so I doubt if her system could handle it anyway,  I have downloaded it myself and filled it up with some cds she gave me.
Now we have a deal. If I look after the music on the mp3 player, she'll never throw me out of one of her parties again!

Cheers!

ps, are resources modules the drivers then?

Are you on the tablets again?

128 Mb - wouldn't that be the amount memory she has?
200 Mb - that would be the full set of drivers etc for the player, and it's the file size. Nothing to do with memory.

Yup - I reckon that resources are the drivers. Wouldn't think that ME will need 200 Mb of space for the driver it needs though. They would possibly be extracted from a cab file from the CD (if it worked).

The CD is fine. I only got the errors on her pc. When I put into my pc it went straight to the installation options. Is it not that her pc has low resources?
Sorry I took the wrong pills...

I read it that the error message was telling you that it couldn;t find the resources needed for ME on the CD. Hence my suspicion that trhe CD was faulty (or the drive not reading it properly).

When you installed on XP, it would be looking on the CD for different resources.

rolleyes sorry bout this Dave, if I found the driver for the mp3 player where would I install it to in the other computer?

I also wanted to ask the same thing about something else aswell, a related thing I dont understand.
A friend was given a printer but no software. The person who gave it to her swore that all she needed was the driver and she could find it on the net. I begged to differ cause where would you install the driver to? Don't you need the full software to run a device?

No, you don't need any other software besides drivers for lots of hardware. Take for example, video cards and the drivers for them.

All you need is to install the drivers from a specific location, either a CD, or from a location on your hard drive.

The MP3 player would be a different scenario, but if you connect it to a USB port, Windows should then recognise it as new hardware and look for the drivers. In the dialogue box that comes up, you can specify where Windows should look for them. That will be wherever you have saved the drivers to - like on your own CD, flash drive or on the hard drive.

Windows should then install the files it needs into the system folders and/or registry as apropriate.

Similar thing for a printer - Windows has a set of drivers for many printers, and they will work from them. You might not get the makers extra facilities, like maintenance and monitoring for the printer, buit it will still print using a generic set of drivers.

Does that help?

Yeah it does Ashley,  :PDT_Love_27:  I mean actually!

Shirley Dave,  :PDT_Love_27:  ehh, I mean Dave surely I need more than the driver on the cd?

Oh sorry you just told me that.
