Internet Explorer 7 goes public with Beta 2 11:57AM
Microsoft has publicly released the second beta of Internet Explorer 7. Available for download from
www.microsoft.com/ie, the latest build is said to be feature complete and includes 'reliability and compatibility enhancements'. Microsoft is looking for feedback.
As well as tabs and 'quick tabs' (a thumbnail view of open windows), there is a built-in search box, 'anti-phishing' filters and RSS support.
The first public 'pre-beta' was released in February, having leaked onto the Net as early as January 2006.
IE7 Beta 2 for Windows XP will now run on Windows XP 64-bit Edition and Windows Server 2003 SP1 as well as Windows XP SP2. The release is intended to help Web developers and designers optimise websites for the new browser, which is scheduled to officially launch in the second half of the year, following a preliminary Vista Beta 2 release for the browser.
Marking the release of the second beta is a new IE7 Add-ons site, consisting of free plugins (such as auto-fill forms and bookmark managers) for the latest version of Microsoft's browser, which can be found at
www.ieaddons.com.
More information can be found on the updated Internet Explorer homepage at
www.microsoft.com/ie.
Note that Microsoft expects the Arabic, Finnish and German language versions of the beta to be released 3 May, with Japanese language support available 8 May.
