Re: comand promp and ctl alt del issue

Essex boy, Seems to me that an extensive thread could be started on the value of having a valid and dependable backup. In over 20 years, I still brag on being able to restore 100% of the time even after a crash, virus, etc. Years ago I wrote my thoughts on how to organize hard drives and make backup...

Re: comand promp and ctl alt del issue

Flea, What you're suggesting isn't possible if your anti-virus scan DOES NOT find a virus or trojan with a name. If you have a reliable backup/restore to work with, and your time is valuable, just do the restore. I have been a loyal subscriber to Powerquests Drive Image (now Norton Ghost). As per su...

Re: comand promp and ctl alt del issue

Blake & Dave:

Had the sme thing happen to me today. I have an up-to-date Anti-virus and Firewall. The only way I could get back in business was to restore last Friday's backup of my C:\ (XP OS) and F:\ (Programs) drives. This is the only way I could work around the mentioned problem!

Re: MS Windows Live OneCare

Dave, I used to think that way about MS. But, when I compare MS to Symantec/Mcafee, I really can't tell the difference. I work with a lot of Seniors (myself included in this age group) and have decided to unload ALL their Symantec/Mcafee apps that are bogging down a lot of their "slower" computers t...

MS Windows Live OneCare

Has anyone tried the fairly new MS Windows Live OneCare. I have and honestly it is all that is needed for me to keep my system running at top speed. I've read some Pros & Cons and want to open the subject with this forum as it is one of the best, NO NONSENSE, forums I have visited in years. Thanking...

Re: Computer shuts down at startup...

Jason, You might also have a dead or weak battery on your motherboard. As the battery maintains all your settings, the computer will shut down with an error message if it can't find your HD info. I had this problem with battery and had to change out motherboard. However, if computer shuts off (power...

Re: It's Windows Live or die

thedon, re: MS Live OneCare Software Just found this post and want to ask if you have tried "MS Live OneCare"? It is targeting Symantec, McAfee, Diskeeper & backup programs all in one. The software can be loaded on 3 computers legally. Honestly, this is all that I need at the moment to keep my syst...

Re: blitz replying tips.

Be careful when you enlarge text this way. Sometimes you really have to work at it to come back down to original point size.  I tried this once and it messed up my fonts for a while. Maybe I didn't read the post I got properly.

Re: Explorer - Classic View

OR-- did you mean to set up your Explorer in Classic View all the time? If so, go to "tool", "Folder Options", "General Tab", "Tasks" and put the Radio button in "Use Windows Classic Folders". Now, to go directly to an expanded Explorer View, eliminating clicking on "My Compurer", I just use the key...

Re: blitz replying tips.

One of the neatest shortcuts I learned to use recently, to enter the text for a website in address bar............... 1. Type only the name of site in address bar.  ie: myfixxp 2. Press the {Ctrl-Enter} and Wa-La, the address completes itself. ie: http://www.fixmyxp.com/ I find this is faster, in mo...

Re: Bad Experiences with Software

Glad to hear that it wasn't just me vs. Symantec/Norton. When I uninstalled it from my daughters puter, I must have had 200+ lines to edit out in Registry, searching on "Norton", "Symantec" and "Norton SystemWorks". They leave a lot of junk behind, even after you run their "uninstall". re: "Ghost" I...

Re: Bad Experiences with Software

What's happening with Symantec? I have used all of their software for 20+ years and basically was pleased until they bought Powerquest's Drive Image backup software. I have backed up every friday with Drive Image without loss of data for years. The first releases from Symantec, of Drive Image, were ...

Re: Windows Auto Arrange Icons

Finally!!!! I found the problem/solution. It was very simple, but none of us would have bet the farm on the answer. The shortcut icons created initially by my software and placed on the desktop, sort in alpha order right after the system icons. ie: Pinnacle Studio, Picassa, Roxio, Turbo Tax The shor...

If you just want to correct your time or date, right click on the time, select time and date and correct in window that appears.
