Hi, I'm new here and I have a couple questions:
I have Windows XP MCE 05 and I have recently started having problems with my computer freezing up. Its usually when I am opening IE and at different times while I am on different websites. I tried a few things that didn't work and eventually crashed my computer and had to run a whole system recovery. It is running alot better now but It does still freeze up sometimes. Any ideas?
My second question, Is there anyway to recover lost pictures and files that got deleted when I did the system recovery?

First Question: The operating system can freeze for a whole raft of reasons from a particular program malfunctioning to a hardware issue.

To identify what is causing the problem may involve running Task Manager to see what has stopped responding, looking at the event logs or maybe running a scan for malware or a virus.

It's always best to seek advice before reinstalling XP. Did you reinstall or just use System Recovery? Please note that there is a difference between System Restore and the recover disks provided by your supplier. If you used recovery disks, you drive would have been wiped and restored to how it was the day you bought it.

Question Two:  If you have reinstalled XP, and you also reformatted, the only way you are likely to recover lost data is to use a specialist service. This will involve a cost. It's always adviseable to backup important data to CD, DVD, flash drive or another hard disk. Fitting a second drive is easy, and you could store data on it instead of the system drive. That way, if you do have to reinstall the operating system, you won't lose that data.

In a nutshell, you have probably lost your data unless you are willing to pay for a recovery service.

When i was doing a C drive error check (i think thats what its called) to try to find out what was causing my freeze ups it restarted and didn't ever go back to my start up screen. It just kept going in circles to the screens that come up when you restart but wouldn't go to start up. The only way I could get out of it was to press F11 and run a recovery. Its back to the way it was when I bought it. its definately cleaned out now! lol
