Newbie needs major help---C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\sa.dat---Alcan worm???

Post by wyldkatt » Sun Sep 02, 2007 7:30 pm

First things first, extreme illiteracy of computers here, so please be patient..thanks.

Well, I was given a desktop..and when I tried to run a defrag on it, at 49% of the scan it produced a  message that said the program was stopped by C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\sa.dat

What is this all about ?? Can someone help me w/removal ?? From what I've read so far it kinda sounds like this Alcan worm thingy...I'm actually clueless tho...I'm capable of following directions though...(don't ask any of my ex's that...lol)

Can somebody please help me ???  thanks 2 all  ...

                                                                                                                                               ~wyld~

sa.dat is a system file and it contains information if you have scheduled tasks.
That's quite normal.

Try defrag in Safe Mode, it should go through OK.

If it does, then perhaps we can identify what tasks there are and what might be stopping the defrag process.

Squeezebox is right there, how much space do you have on your hard drive as I believe defrag needs at least 10% to work.  Maybe do a disk clean up first and try again

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
VISTA
XPsp2
Avast (of course)
